Data Source
All shape dimensions and section properties come from the AISC Shapes Database v16.0, published by the American Institute of Steel Construction. It is consistent with the AISC Steel Construction Manual, 16th Edition.
How Pages Are Built
- Each page is generated from the database record for that shape, so values are not typed by hand.
- Imperial and metric values both come from the database; nothing is converted by BeamChart.
- Missing values are shown as “Not listed” rather than estimated.
How Values Are Checked
Before publishing, the imperial and metric values of every W shape are compared (depth, flange width, web and flange thickness, weight, area and moment of inertia) to catch data or column errors.
Calculators
The weight calculator multiplies the AISC nominal weight per foot (or per meter) by the length you enter.
Updates and Corrections
Pages are reviewed when AISC releases a new database version. To report an error, use the contact page.
