Pick a steel beam size, enter the length and quantity, and get the total weight in pounds, kilograms and US tons. The list covers all 289 wide flange (W), 28 American Standard (S) and 22 HP shapes in the AISC Shapes Database v16.0.
How Steel Beam Weight Is Calculated
Total weight = nominal weight per foot × length × quantity. The weight per foot is the second number in the size: a W16x26 weighs 26 lb/ft, so a 20 ft W16x26 weighs 26 × 20 = 520 lb. In metric, use kg/m × meters.

Steel Beam Weight FAQ
How much does a steel I-beam weigh per foot?
It depends on the size. In the AISC database, W shapes range from 8.5 lb/ft (W6x8.5) to 925 lb/ft (W36x925). The weight per foot is the number after the x in the designation.
Does the calculator include connections or coatings?
No. It uses the nominal weight of the bare steel section. Add plates, bolts, welds and coatings separately.
